Sustainable Enterprise Academy (SEA)

Assisting business in the transformation to corporate sustainability by providing senior executives in business, government and civil society with the vision, education, tools and support necessary to champion sustainable development in their organizations

The Sustainable Enterprise Academy was founded by the Erivan K. Haub Program in Business and Sustainability at the Schulich School of Business, York University. The Academy is North America's premier executive education program on sustainable development.

In addition, a specific Academy for the K-12 Education sector has been developed in parallel to SEA, that being the Sustainability and Education Academy (SEdA) to address this area in more detail. More information on this academy can be found below.

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

The Sustainable Enterprise Academy (SEA) provides Executive Seminars on Corporate Sustainable Development featuring leading-edge thinkers and practitioners. The Business Leader Seminars are 4 day residential programs offered twice a year. The next Seminar will be held in Victoria, Australia in partnership with the Melbourne Business School Feb 9 - 13, 2009.

The Seminars are designed for senior executives and leaders in business, government and civil society and delivered by internationally acclaimed speakers and an international faculty. The Academy’s Alumni Network supports the ongoing work of Seminar graduates. The Academy also provides events and training on specific aspects of sustainability.

BUSINESS LEADER SEMINARS

Seminars combine formal chaired presentations by guest presenters and faculty, debates and discussions with leading experts, and learning team sessions involving participants and the faculty. All Executive Seminars address critical issues of the day through case studies, simulations and leading/internationally known guest speakers. The results of each Seminar are documented in a report for wide distribution. Participants explore and debate strategic issues such as:

  • The environmental, social, and economic drivers for sustainability in business;
  • Business and government roles in global sustainability;
  • Opportunities and threats facing business;
  • Drivers and sustainable opportunities in emerging markets
  • Management tools for sustainable business development;
  • Scenarios for sustainable business in the 21st Century;
  • The business case for sustainable development;
  • Role of government - as practitioners, policy setters and enablers of sustainable development;
  • Personal development and corporate learning;
  • The new triple bottom line.

Sustainability Education Academy (SEdA)

The Sustainability and Education Academy (SEdA) is designed for leaders in the formal education sector in Canada. SEdA launched its program with a Symposium on February 18 -20, 2007 at York University that brought together best-practice leaders in Education for Sustainable Development from Canada and five other countries. The experiences and key learnings shared at the symposium are being used to produce case studies for use in subsequent SEdA Education Leader Seminars and similar programs around the world. The next SEdA Education Leaders Seminar is scheduled to take place in Manitoba November 23-26, 2008.
